When the Universe Conspires For You

Recently the universe conspired to pull together a highly unlikely story for me. It was a drawn-out little tale that took place over a week. When the final piece fell into place, as it seemed bound to from the frustrating beginning, there was the final Aha moment.

I visited Cleveland recently for a specific purpose: For an annual checkup with the Liver Transplant Clinic at Cleveland Clinic. I consider Cleveland and its famous medical institution a magical place because this is where I received a brand new life. So I equate Cleveland with magic and pixie dust with a lot of science. The transplant surgery was performed in May 2016, so I’m supposedly old-hat with this transplant stuff, right? Not at all. I’m still in utter enchanted awe that these people helped create a new destiny for me.

But post-transplant, having been sick for more than a decade (at another hospital in another state), I fell into a deep funk. And my finances took a nosedive because I’d become that Old Person that organizations don’t hire, no matter what your qualifications may be, or how much you had persisted in applying.

So for this trip, a few people boosted me financially to make it happen. My sister paid my airfare and gave me $200. A very good friend gifted me a Marriott stay with her points. And one of my nieces…
