Tomorrow, May 22nd, I celebrate my 6th anniversary of my liver transplant. In another 6 years, will those still be taking place, saving lives? Because, yes, I was dying of a rare liver disease that was genetic in origin. Nothing I did to cause it. But boy, the looks I got when I first got sick and someone asked why I was sick - and I just replied, "liver disease." Truth is, if you're an alcoholic and did "kill" your liver, it's very difficult for "you" to get a transplant. Donated organs are precious and few. I got evaluated just to get on the waitlist from every way to Sunday. Good emotional and mental health was way up there. Family support, too. But even just six years ago, we were still living in a "dream." Very little awareness of our coming politics. NO ONE thought someone like Trump could come along - especially following Barack Obama's two terms. But it all start long before Obama's presidency. The Republicans were building, building, building - and already with their eyes on the prize - overturn Roe V. Wade. Women knew that - but who was listening to US???

I don't know what comes next. I watched a man on MSNBC this morning talking about our FALTERING ELECTRICAL GRID - across the entire United States. And I live in the middle of the West - Colorado. Yep, heating up and with more wind - I know, I follow the weather closely. Little I can do about climate change - I already do the most I can - no car, use public transit (I'm lucky - I live in Denver), changed to vegetarian diet right after transplant 6 years ago.

I'm doing the only thing I can do - staying informed, reading books about climate change AND political collapse, the loss of voting rights.

And continuing to read the despair of Umair Haque. Sometimes I post his articles on my Facebook account. Some people read and comment. A lot don't. But at heart, I'm a teacher - so I'll keep trying to educate others. In the meantime, A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO UMAIR HAQUE!
