Sadly, I get why the Medium writers/audience didn’t respond much. It’s a strange platform, gotta say. There are so many stories about how to manage everything there is to manage on Medium — how to get curated (whatever that really means!), how much money they’re making, how little or how much, and not spending a lot of time on their own personal stories (though some do). This is a BLOG, for heaven’s sake! I now skip the “how to write on Medium” stories.
Your story, on the other hand, resonated with me, just as you were trying to shed some light on these awful disorders and the women living with them. You did them a great service. They became visible — and humans crave and need that, maybe more than anything. I certainly lived among the invisible ones for years. My FB friends kept me going. And I started my own blog to get my story out “in bulk” to my friends and family members.
If you haven’t already, get to know Shannon Ashley. She’s the most human and humane super-successful writer on Medium. And so humble about it. She stays in touch with her followers, too. And she has a Patreon page — I’m a member for $1 a month — so hear from her even more personally there.
Keep going, Danielle! Just hang in there and write what you think is right for you. I’ll keep an eye out for your articles. I keep responses like yours so I can look you up again, too! Best of luck to you!
