Leonard, I was faced with a genetic liver disease that would eventually end up with a liver transplant. It felt overwhelming to me, but I kept doing the things that brought meaning to my life - teaching, tutoring, starting a graduate school program. AND I’d been a walker, and just continued on. Daily. No matter the weather (I live in Denver), I was out there. Did I think of backing off that? Sometimes BUT the walking was giving me those hits of well-being. 12 years of that. When I finally got called for the transplant (I’d have had to switch to Cleveland Clinic, I weighed 99 pounds! But I was in good shape for the very long surgery - 12 hours. Just KEEP moving! I finished my graduate degree with all A’s - and started a new life. Don’t let The Beast win!
