Actually there are statistics kept on 3rd and 4th graders on their reading skills that people who build prisons use to determine how much prison space will be needed in the future. The more kids who can’t read at that age, the more prison space needed. Yep, it’s a real thing. I used to teach reading to first through third grade kids at risk, fiercely. Also, Neil Gaiman in his speech/audio/book “Art Matters” addresses this very relationship. To answer your question — I am MORE than implying that reading books will keep people out of prison. It is a statistically true fact.
